Brazilian Man Killed by Car While Kissing Girlfriend on Sidewalk

In a heartbreaking incident, a 31-year-old Brazilian man, identified as Jonathan Ribeiro, lost his life when a speeding car struck him and his girlfriend while they were sharing a kiss on a sidewalk in Brazil.

The tragic incident unfolded as Ribeiro and his 26-year-old partner were out walking their dog in the southern zone of São Paulo on a Sunday. According to reports from Daily Mail, a vehicle traveling at high speed collided with the couple near a gas station.

Surveillance footage, released for the first time, captures the horrifying moment when the car plowed into the couple, dragging them along the sidewalk before coming to a halt. The impact left Ribeiro fatally injured and his girlfriend with a fractured shoulder and bruises on her head and legs.

In the immediate aftermath of the accident, a bystander managed to detain the 30-year-old driver, whose identity has not been revealed. The driver was allegedly attempting to flee the scene but was held down until authorities arrived.

Ribeiro was swiftly taken to Campo Limpo Municipal Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, his girlfriend received medical treatment for her injuries.

The driver’s sobriety was called into question, as a breathalyzer test conducted by military police agents indicated that he had consumed alcohol.

However, the results did not show him to be over the legal limit. Additionally, drugs were reportedly found in the vehicle. When questioned by law enforcement about the incident, the driver claimed to have no memory of it.

Following his arrest, the driver was charged and brought to court. Shockingly, Brazilian news outlet G1 reported that the judge granted him provisional release. This outcome has sparked discussions about the legal system’s handling of such cases and raised concerns about accountability and justice for the victims of this tragic event.
