Benue State Plans to Establish 10,000-Person Security Force to Combat Insecurity

In a bid to tackle the growing insecurity in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced plans to establish a 10,000-person security force.

The governor made this revelation during an expanded stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Government House in Makurdi.

Governor Alia emphasized that the establishment of this security outfit aims to enhance security in Benue communities and enable rural farmers to access their farmlands without fear. He assured stakeholders that his administration is already in the process of procuring Hilux vans and motorcycles for the outfit’s personnel to conduct state-wide patrols effectively.

Acknowledging the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and security agencies in safeguarding the state and the nation, Governor Alia expressed confidence that Benue youths would constitute the bulk of the new security force, which is expected to be formed before the end of May.

Addressing concerns about the state’s security challenges, Governor Alia revealed that some enemies of the state had attempted to invite unidentified gunmen to destabilize Benue’s peace. However, he assured stakeholders that the government had successfully repelled these invaders and would continue to do so until they are completely eradicated, allowing farmers to resume their activities and ensuring the state’s food security.

Furthermore, Governor Alia highlighted his administration’s efforts in other sectors, including healthcare and infrastructure development. He announced the recruitment of over 400 medical and non-medical staff at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) and outlined plans to revamp the primary and secondary healthcare systems across the state. Additionally, the governor revealed plans to reopen the State’s School of Nursing and provide financial support to native students returning to the school.

Governor Alia also assured stakeholders of the government’s commitment to education, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development. He disclosed that contracts for the construction of over fifty state roads had been awarded, with completion expected within a year.

Amidst rumors of political discord within the APC, Governor Alia reiterated the party’s unity and dismissed allegations of rifts within the party leadership. He praised the Tiv Traditional Council and the Tor Tiv, HRM Orchivirigh Prof. James Ayatse, for their intervention in fostering a cordial relationship with Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

In his closing remarks, Deputy Governor Mr. Sam Ode expressed his full support for the Governor and urged the people of Benue South to continue supporting the government’s positive plans for the state.
