The Managing Director, Cepat Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, Chidiebere Agama, yesterday, lauded the remarkable achievements of the former Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Barr. Walter Ozioko, describing it as a remarkable.
Agama, who made this call in the university town of Nsukka, equally said that Barr. Ozioko has raised the bar in local government administration in Nigeria, adding that he brought dividends of democracy and equally empowered the people of the council area.
He further said that the former council chairman demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities and would consolidate on his track records if he is given another chance to complete his second tenure.

“Barr. Walter Ozioko’s first tenure as the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State was excellent and selfless. He is the first Nsukka council Chairman to attract dividends of democracy to the people of Opi by building a functional borehole which has made good drinking water available to the people.
“He has equally empowered the people through appointments and he is reaching out to the people in other areas of life. If you look at what he has done, you would begin to wonder whether it is possible for any local government Chairman in Nigeria to achieve the feat in two years. At times, I wonder whether he has other sources of income apart from the statutory allocation which comes to the local government on monthly basis.

“If you compare his achievements to other former local government chairmen in the council, you could see that he has set a standard. My wish and advice for Nsukka people is to vote him in for the second tenure because we have seen and we believe that his second tenure would be the best thing that would happen to the people of Nsukka Local Government Area. I want him to come back and consolidate on the achievements of the first tenure. There are roads which he has done elementary works on and he would complete them if he returns for second term.
“Anybody that has the interest of Nsukka at heart would support him to come back for second term,” he said.
Regarding the agitation by the people of Nsukka East to produce the next Nsukka local government Chairman, Agama, argued that Barr. Ozioko who has demonstrated his capacity to lead should be allowed to continue, adding that no good coach changes “the winning team.”
“In politics, we should be talking about someone who is selfless and who has the capacity to lead the people. Politics is about service to humanity and you cannot give what you don’t have. It is by what someone who was given a little opportunity has done that you would know he would do better if given more of such opportunities. I am not one of those saying “it is our turn,” I want the right people to join hands and make Nsukka a better place, so that our place can be habitable and compete with other growing communities in Nigeria.
“We are not happy that when you go to some places like Anambra State, you would be wondering where we were when they were achieving all those development projects, but I am happy that God has given us someone who is making Nsukka Local Government Area compete favourably with others in terms of development, what we should be talking about now is how to encourage him to continue,” he said.
