Despite a fierce gun battle between the Nigerian Army and the bandits, the criminals managed to flee with their captives.
However, the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin-Daji, subsequently rescued six female students. As of the time of this report, the University spokesperson, Umar Usman, and the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Yazid, were unavailable for comment.
In a related incident, security forces in neighbouring Kebbi State successfully neutralized 23 bandits in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
The bandits had crossed over from Niger State, where military jets had targeted them, and had terrorized villages in Kebbi State, kidnapping 17 farmers.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of security personnel and local vigilantes, the kidnapped farmers were rescued.
Efforts are underway to prevent potential reprisal attacks by the bandits on the affected communities through strategic security measures.
