The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) has issued a directive for workers in the Aviation Security and logistics sub-sector to initiate an immediate strike starting from Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
This move comes as a result of dissatisfaction with the current wages provided to employees in the sector.
In a circular sent to key authorities including the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police, Airports Command, the Airport Commandant, and the Director of the Department of State Security, the General Secretary of NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, expressed deep concern over the low wages of Aviation Security (AVSEC) graduates. According to the circular, these graduates are currently receiving a monthly salary of just N30,000, a figure that falls far below adequate compensation.

The circular highlighted the union’s frustration, noting that previous attempts to negotiate better wages for their members had not yielded positive results. The decision to embark on a strike underscores the urgency of addressing the wage concerns of AVSEC workers and ensuring that they receive fair compensation for their services.
As the strike action takes effect, the aviation sector is likely to experience disruptions in its operations. This development emphasizes the importance of addressing the wage issue to restore stability and ensure the smooth functioning of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
