The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of Onyejekwe Izuchukwu, a 62-year-old businessman from Texas, USA, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.
Izuchukwu, who had returned to Nigeria for business transactions, was found dead on June 9, 2024.
According to sources, Izuchukwu checked into the Ikoyi hotel on Thursday, June 6, and was found lying on the floor by a housekeeper the next day. The hotel’s management was notified by the housekeeper, who suspected that the businessman had passed away. Subsequently, the incident was reported to the police through the hotel’s Chief Security Officer.

A confidential source revealed, “Izuchukwu was discovered dead in his hotel room on June 9, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m. by a hotel cleaner. He had checked into the hotel on June 6, 2024.”
Despite his apparent condition, a physician was called to examine Izuchukwu, and he was officially declared dead. Izuchukwu was known for his work in developing advanced drilling technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs in the oil and gas industry, serving as President of Bits and Drilling Tools, a Schlumberger division.
State police public relations officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the police had launched an investigation. “Izuchukwu was discovered dead on the hotel room floor. His body has been placed in an Ikeja morgue for an autopsy,” Hundeyin stated. “An investigation into the case has been launched by the command.”
The circumstances surrounding Izuchukwu’s death remain unclear, and the investigation aims to uncover the events leading up to his untimely demise.
