Arsenal beat Man City to win Community Shield trophy

Arsenal secured the first silverware of the new season by defeating treble-winners Manchester City in a penalty shootout to claim the Community Shield.

Substitute Cole Palmer seemed to have clinched victory for City during regular time with a splendid curling shot.

However, an unfortunate last-minute own goal by Manuel Akanji allowed Arsenal to equalize 1-1 and force a shootout.

The Gunners successfully converted all their penalty kicks, while Kevin De Bruyne hit the crossbar and Rodri’s attempt was saved by Aaron Ramsdale.

Similar to a year ago, Erling Haaland had a subdued performance in this match, but his replacement, Palmer, came close to adding another trophy to Etihad Stadium’s collection.

Arsenal had their moments and eventually found the deserved equalizer through a deflected late shot by Leandro Trossard. The shootout concluded with Fabio Vieira converting the decisive penalty, sealing a 4-1 victory for Arsenal, mirroring the result from the previous year.
