Arrested: Portable’s Attempt to Evade Police by Jumping Over a Gate

Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, found himself in a dramatic arrest situation when he attempted to evade Lagos State Police Command agents by jumping over a gate on Tuesday.

The singer’s run-in with the law stemmed from a complaint filed by an automobile dealer to whom he owed money.

Reports indicate that Portable had initiated the purchase of a N27 million G-Wagon from the dealer, making a down payment and committing to settle the remaining balance later. However, the dispute arose when Portable allegedly failed to fulfill his financial obligations, prompting the dealer to seek legal recourse.

A social media video capturing the singer’s arrest depicted him standing among a group of individuals, clad in a white shirt with black stripes, engaging in a conversation with police officers who had arrived to apprehend him. Despite initially maintaining a calm demeanor, Portable’s demeanor quickly shifted when presented with an arrest warrant, prompting him to make a swift escape over a nearby gate.

In a subsequent video, the singer was seen being escorted into a waiting vehicle by police officers, confirming his apprehension by law enforcement authorities. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the state police, confirmed Portable’s arrest, revealing that the singer had been taken into custody over the outstanding payment dispute regarding the G-Wagon purchase.

This isn’t the first time Portable has found himself in legal trouble. In 2023, the singer was detained and charged with assaulting a former signee, following reports of assault. Despite being requested to surrender himself to the authorities, Portable evaded arrest until he was eventually apprehended at his residence in Ota.

Portable gained prominence in 2021 with his hit track “Zazuu,” featuring rapper Olamide. However, his rising success has been overshadowed by a series of controversies and scandals, further complicating his already tumultuous journey in the music industry.
