Responding promptly to the information, troops from Forward Operating Base Danmarke launched an offensive ambush operation within the village.
Engaging the armed bandits in a prolonged firefight, the troops displayed their superior firepower, compelling the bandits to abandon their kidnapped victims and retreat in confusion. As a result of the intense exchange, 10 armed bandits were neutralized, and an unspecified number of them managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
During the course of the operation, the bandits attempted to escape the pursuing troops by crossing a swampy river. Unfortunately, several of them drowned in the process. Two bandits, however, were captured alive during the pursuit.
The operation yielded significant gains for the Nigerian Army. The recovered items from the bandits’ possession included 6 AK-47 rifles, 1 PKT Machine Gun, 5 magazines, 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 3 mobile phones, 2 solar panels, 1 sewing machine, and the sum of N2,410,000.
Regrettably, one female victim who had been abducted lost her life during the confrontation with the bandits. Nevertheless, the operation managed to successfully rescue 9 other victims, all hailing from Sokoto state. These rescued individuals have been handed over to the appropriate authorities to facilitate their reunion with their families.
The operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to combating banditry and other criminal activities in Zamfara state and surrounding areas. The success of the operation highlights the crucial role of intelligence-driven strategies in maintaining peace and security within affected regions.
