In this research project, our primary objective is to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms influencing the pathogenesis of respiratory viruses and to identify new targets that can facilitate the development of broad-spectrum treatments for virus-induced diseases.

A Holistic Approach to Understanding Susceptibility

Furthermore, we aim to shed light on why different individuals exhibit varying susceptibility to viral infections. By identifying key factors contributing to this susceptibility, we strive to lay the groundwork for personalized treatments tailored to the specific needs of each individual.

As a PhD student in this translational project, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of respiratory viruses, including coronaviruses, respiratory syncytial virus, influenza virus, and Puumala hantavirus. Our research primarily involves utilizing a primary 3D lung cell model for infection experiments, complemented by analyses of patient samples. To unravel the intricacies of virus-host interactions, we will employ a combination of state-of-the-art transcriptomics and quantitative proteomics alongside standard cell and virology-based techniques.
