The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Thursday, reiterated the zero-stance of ESUT Management on Gender-based Violence and sexual harassment amongst staff and students of the University.
Professor Okolie equally stated that the University does not tolerate vices of any kind, stating that defaulters are always subjected to appropriate sanctions as stipulated in the rules and regulations of the University.
He made the remarks when the Enugu State Women wing of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, led by their Leader, Hon. Amb. Peace Patrick Nnaji, paid a courtesy call on the ESUT Management at Agbani, Enugu State.
While stating that the Management of the University has been gender-friendly, the Vice Chancellor also said that women occupy key positions in the University.
The Vice Chancellor further said that the University continues to promote global best practices which places the institution as a force to be reckoned with in research and scientific innovations for societal development.
He lauded the support of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to the university, stating that his investment in key infrastructure and equipment helped to facilitate the accreditation of academic programmes in the University.
“The support we received last year from His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State is worth over N300 million and he is still investing more. There are so many infrastructure springing up now at the ESUT Teaching Hospital courtesy of the Governor. It is for this reason that ESUT community has declared their support for his re-election in 2027,” he said.
He appreciated the PDP women for their unwaivering support to the Governor, adding that it is propelling him to do more for the state.
While addressing ESUT Management, the PDP Women Leader, Hon. Nnaji, sought partnership with ESUT in the areas of education support initiatives, joint capacity-building programmes, collaborative research and documentation, establishment of Gender Resource Centre amongst others.
