The member representing Nsukka/ Igbo-Eze South federal constituency of Enugu state and deputy chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, Hon Chidi Mark Obetta has praised the security agencies in Enugu state for the prompt release of the nine persons kidnapped at Eburumiri area of Ibagwa-Aka community in Igbo-Eze South local government of Enugu state area about a week ago.
Two Reverend Sisters and seven others were reportedly kidnapped in the area in the night of 26th April, 2025 by yet to be identified hoodlums.
Hon Obetta in his reaction to the successful release of the victims in a statement he made available to newsmen yesterday described the feat as a clear testament that the security initiatives of the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah is working.
Hon. Obetta expressed his sympathy to the victims saying that he was very grieved when some of his constituents called him on phone and told him about the sad incident.
“When I received the news of the sad development, I rather chose to make necessary contacts, than making any public statement on the issue because what became most important at the time was to see that the victims were secured unhurt. And, I am very happy that the victims eventually regained their freedom unhurt.
“Two Reverend Sisters and seven other persons were kidnapped in the circumstance. And you can imagine the trauma they were put into. So, it is a very sad development which all hands must be put on desk to stamp out any repeat of such incident in any part of our constituency, and, indeed, in where in our state”, Hon Obetta said.
He described security as everybody’s responsibility, and, called on everyone in the federal constituency to take up the task of making our areas free of criminal elements by volunteering information about bad characters in their midst to the security agencies.
He called on leaders of communities, especially the Presidents-general and traditional rulers to initiate effective security measures that would make their communities inhabitable bad eggs.
“Kidnapping and violent crime are not in our culture, so we have to unite and make sure that the evil do not take root amongst us”, the federal lawmaker urged.
