Enugu: Edeoga Leaves LP, Rejoins PDP, Praises Mbah’s Leadership

… Glad to be back – Edeoga

The Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 governorship candidate in Enugu State, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, has officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speculations about his return had intensified following a closed-door meeting with Enugu State PDP leaders on January 31.

However, around noon on Monday, Edeoga, accompanied by his supporters, arrived at the PDP State Secretariat at No. 1 Charles Street, GRA, Enugu. He was warmly received by the party’s leadership, led by Chairman Dr. Martins Chukwunweike, along with other stakeholders.

Addressing party members, Edeoga expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah, his Eha-Amufu Ward III in Isi-Uzo LGA, and the PDP leadership at all levels for facilitating his seamless reintegration into the party.

Reaffirming his commitment to the PDP, he urged all stakeholders to support Governor Mbah’s administration in advancing the state’s development.

“I am truly happy to be back,” Edeoga declared. “I want to sincerely thank the governor of Enugu State. His role in making today possible cannot be overstated.

“With this gesture, he has demonstrated a remarkable political mindset—one that deserves recognition and support.

“This marks a significant shift in Enugu State’s political history. It may seem like a small step, but it signals a departure from politics of bitterness and exclusivity. Enugu is setting an example by embracing inclusivity, ensuring that politics is no longer about ‘winner takes all.’

“So, I rededicate myself to the PDP to help maintain its dominance in Enugu State, as it has always been. I deeply appreciate everyone who contributed to this moment,” he said.

Dr. Chukwunweike, in his remarks, described Edeoga’s return as a strategic move for the PDP in Enugu, fully endorsed by Governor Mbah, who is committed to uniting the party.

“Our top priority as the state’s party leadership is to foster unity,” Chukwunweike stated. “His Excellency directed us to bring everyone together, and today marks a significant milestone in that effort.

“With this and similar moves in the future, the PDP is well-positioned for victory in the 2027 general elections. We wholeheartedly welcome our brother and his supporters back into the fold,” he added.

Barr. Obiora Obeagu, Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, hailed Edeoga’s return as a milestone for both Isi-Uzo and the Enugu PDP, reinforcing Governor Mbah’s leadership and validating those who supported him in the 2023 election.

“This is a welcome and long-anticipated development, given the governor’s inclusive approach to governance.

“Despite Isi-Uzo being a stronghold of the opposition in 2023, Governor Mbah prioritized the area in his development agenda. The construction of Smart Schools, extensive healthcare centers, and major road projects such as the 21.7km asphalt road to farm settlements and the ongoing 41km Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway are clear indicators of his leadership style.

“These tangible developments make it evident why people are returning to the PDP to support the governor’s vision for Enugu State.

“Today’s event affirms the decisions we made in 2023. Hon. Edeoga has now chosen the same path, and we are all united in working for the progress of Ndi Enugu,” Obeagu concluded.
