Chukwu emerges new SSANU Chairman of ESUT


Emeka Chukwu Elected as SSANU ESUT Chairman

An Assistant Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) in the Registrar’s office, ESUT, Emeka Chukwu, was elected as the new Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), ESUT Branch, for the next four years on Wednesday, March 19.

He polled 128 votes to defeat Cornelius Udeinya, a Deputy Director in the Academic Planning department, who garnered 84 votes in an election described by electorates as free, fair, and credible.

The election, which saw the emergence of eight other officials, was the highlight of the 3rd Quadrennial Congress of SSANU, ESUT Branch, supervised by the National President of the Association and other zonal officers.

  • Secretary: Friday Ogbodo (120 votes), defeating Modesta Ani (91 votes).
  • Trustee: Fidelia Eneje (138 votes), defeating Stephen Nwankwo (67 votes).

Other officers who emerged unopposed include:

  • Jude Nnaemeka Nwodo (Vice Chairman)
  • Gladdys Anike (Women Leader)
  • Offia Ikenna (PRO)
  • Florence Ogbuagu (Financial Secretary)
  • Mrs. Oluchi Chijindu (Treasurer)
  • Mrs. Apollonia Nwachukwu (Assistant Secretary)

Swearing-in Ceremony

During the swearing-in, the National President of the Association, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim Haruna, represented by Comrade Abubakar Aliyu, emphasized teamwork, dedication, and discipline.

Comrade Aliyu, along with other national and zonal officers, commended SSANU-ESUT for conducting a transparent election and congratulated ESUT Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, for being named the Most Outstanding Vice Chancellor in Nigeria in 2024.

Comrade Sir Ikechukwu Ezeanioma, the outgoing Acting Chairman, expressed gratitude to the ESUT Management for their support. He urged the new executives to remain disciplined and prioritize the welfare of members.
