Rising cases of untimely deaths: ESUT VC harps on constant routine medical checks

The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Thursday, enjoined staff and students of the University to always avail themselves for routine medical investigations to avoid untimely deaths.


He stated that due to some harsh economic realities and security concerns which have exposed the citizenry to varying degrees of shocks and hazards, there is need for regular medical investigations to determine ones state of health.

He made the call during a health sensitization workshop tagged ‘ Promoting Health Awareness and Wellness in the University Community.’

The workshop which was organized by the Directorate of Research and Innovation, ESUT, in conjunction with the Utopian, and KEDI Health Care groups conducted free medical screening for staff and students of the University.

He urged the ESUT community not to attribute every health challenge to superstitions but to always follow medical prescriptions to find solutions to their health issues.

In her remarks, the Director of ESUT Research and Innovation Centre, Professor Harmony Nzeribe Nwobodo, stated that the health workshop became necessary due to the spate of untimely deaths in the University.

She stressed the importance of a healthy workforce in enhancing productivity and enjoined the University community to participate in the medical outreach to boost their health status.

While thanking the Management of the University for supporting her Directorate, she equally appreciated the Utopian, and KEDI Health Care groups for extending free medicare to ESUT community.

Also, in her remarks, the Leader, Community Outreach, Utopian Health Care, Ugochi Eze Okeke, enjoined the university community to always pay adequate attention to their health and diets.

Equally, a Consultant of KEDI Health Care, Elder Dr. Okechukwu Uwaelelam, stated that greater percentage of healthcare challenges were caused by unhealthy diets.
He therefore urged ESUT community to take what and when they eat their foods seriously.

Dr. Uwaelelam, further urged the community to engage in fitness exercises and to avoid overworking themselves.
