Supporting the Launch of Four New Programmes in Allied Health Sciences

The National Universities Commission (NUC), on Wednesday, began resource verification for four new programmes at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). These programmes, housed in the newly established Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, include Radiography, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, and Biomedical Engineering.

Addressing ESUT Management at the Vice Chancellor’s office in Agbani, Enugu State, a Deputy Director of Academic Planning at NUC, Mrs. Justina Emerole, who led the team during the exercise, assured that they would not adopt unfair tactics in their assessment of resources for the take-off of these programmes.

“We are not here to kill the baby before its birth; we are here to nurture the baby to growth. In NUC, resource verification is very important because if you don’t start well, you will encounter problems when it gets to the point of inviting NUC for accreditation,” Mrs. Emerole emphasized.

She added, “We are here to see what you have on the ground, where we have advice to give you, we will do that, and we shall pat you on the back where you did well.”

ESUT’s Preparedness and State Government Support

While restating the preparedness of ESUT for the take-off of the new programmes, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, lauded the solid support and encouragement of the Enugu State Government in ensuring that the new programmes launched strongly by procuring the necessary equipment.

“This resource verification exercise would not have been possible without the enormous support of the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, who procured equipment worth over N150 million for the programmes,” Professor Okolie said.

He equally stated that ESUT has recorded 99% success in the NUC accreditation exercises conducted since the inception of his administration in the University. He urged the NUC team to be partners in progress to ensure that the new programmes begin on sound footings.

The collaboration between ESUT and the Enugu State Government underscores a shared commitment to advancing education and addressing critical skill gaps in the health sector. With robust resource verification and accreditation processes, these new programmes hold promise for producing skilled professionals to meet societal needs.

As ESUT continues to expand its academic offerings, the university’s alignment with national priorities and its dedication to quality assurance reflect its role as a key driver of educational development in southeastern Nigeria. The outcome of this resource verification exercise will be pivotal in shaping the future of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and its impact on regional healthcare.
