In response to the escalating rates of kidnapping and banditry, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has directed the posting of 54 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to head the Force Intelligence Departments at zonal and state command levels across the country.
This move follows a surge in criminal activities, particularly in Abuja and Kaduna State.
The decision aims to bolster the intelligence capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force, with a focus on addressing the prevalent crime wave. The recent data revealed that in 2022, there were 194 reported attacks, resulting in 69 fatalities and 152 abductions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the posting aligns with the IGP’s commitment to enhancing the intelligence department’s effectiveness at all force levels. Since assuming office, IGP Egbetokun has taken steps to upgrade the Force Intelligence Bureau to a department, appointing DIG Habu Sanni to oversee the newly formed Department of Force Intelligence.

The newly appointed ACPs have been tasked with deploying intelligence-based assets to combat crimes and criminal activities within their jurisdictions. The IGP emphasized the importance of professionalism and leveraging their experience to strengthen the existing intelligence architecture of the Force. The posting is effective immediately.
