In a tightly contested Group B encounter at the AFCON 2023 tournament, Nigeria secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Guinea-Bissau, confirming their place in the Round of 16.

The match showcased Nigeria’s resilience as they maintained control despite facing challenges from Guinea-Bissau. Both teams displayed intensity in the opening 15 minutes, creating opportunities but failing to capitalize initially.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 36th minute when an own goal by Guinea-Bissau’s Sangante gave Nigeria the lead. Despite a disallowed goal in the 59th minute due to a handball by Victor Osimhen, Nigeria remained in control. In the 69th minute, Aina had a chance to extend the lead, but his shot went over the bar, maintaining the score at 1-0.
