Cape Verde’s national football team, the Blue Sharks, continued their impressive run at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by defeating Mozambique 3-0 to secure a spot in the round of 16.
The victory comes on the back of Cape Verde’s earlier stunning triumph over Ghana in their opening match.
The Blue Sharks took the lead in the 32nd minute with a goal from Bedé, who fired a right-footed shot from outside the area following a free kick. Ryan Mendes added to their lead in the 51st minute, scoring a right-footed shot from the center of the box. Kevin Pina sealed the victory with a third goal, firing a shot from outside the penalty area into the bottom left-hand corner.
Cape Verde’s dominance throughout the match was evident in their possession and numerous scoring opportunities. Despite Mozambique’s initial resistance, they succumbed to the relentless pressure exerted by the Cape Verdean team.
