In a recent update, it has been reported that troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army have successfully neutralized three terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle in Kaduna. The announcement was made by Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations of 1 Division Nigerian Army on November 6, 2023.
Troops have made positive results in the fight against insurgency as part of the continuing clearance operation undertaken in cooperation with Operation Whirl Punch. On November 5, 2023, forces confronted terrorist and criminal groups during a clearance operation near Maidaro, Ngade, Ahla, and Rikau Villages in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. When the terrorists spotted the troops, they attempted to flee but were pursued by the military, resulting in the neutralization of two terrorists. The remaining intruders fled, leaving behind a motorcycle.
On the same day, troops conducted a clandestine operation in Chikun Local Government’s Tantatu and Antena general areas. During the course of the operation, one terrorist was neutralized, and the troops seized an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, seven rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, and two Techno phones.

Maj. Gen. VU Okoro, General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, praised the troops for their fortitude and asked them to keep working until all terrorists and criminals inside the Division’s Area of Responsibility were eliminated. He also urged Kaduna residents to keep providing credible and actionable intelligence to the Nigerian Army and other security authorities.
