The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading socio-political group of the Igbo people, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s selection of just five ministers from the South-East, labeling it as “inequitable and unjust.
The organization conveyed its dissatisfaction in a statement issued by its President General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, on Thursday.
Ohanaeze pointed out that the formation of states and geopolitical zones was orchestrated by the military administrations, with minimal involvement from the Igbo community.
It highlighted the imbalance in the South-East’s representation, as it comprises only five states, while other geopolitical zones possess a minimum of six states.
President Tinubu put forth 48 nominees for ministerial roles, all of whom have successfully undergone Senate scrutiny. The South-East’s representation among these nominees includes Nkiru Onyejiocha (Abia), Uju Ohaneye (Anambra), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Uche Nnaji (Enugu), and Doris Uzoka (Imo).
