55 People Escape Potential Disaster as Plane Skids Off Runway in Lagos

In a harrowing incident, an aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines had a narrow escape from a potential disaster as it skidded off the runway upon landing at Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, Nigeria.

The plane, with registration number 5N BWY, was arriving from Owerri when the incident occurred, reportedly due to heavy rainfall. Fortunately, all passengers and crew on board were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) swiftly launched an investigation into the incident. In an official statement, NSIB’s spokesperson, Tunji Oketumbi, confirmed that the Embraer ERJ145 aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines had experienced a serious incident.

The bureau is actively seeking information from the public, including pictures, videos, or recordings, that could provide valuable evidence to support their comprehensive investigation.

This incident underscores the importance of thorough safety measures in the aviation industry, ensuring that potential disasters are averted and the safety of passengers and crew remains a top priority.
