The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja Zonal Command, has achieved a significant legal victory as it successfully arraigned and secured convictions for three individuals involved in internet-related fraud.
Chukwu Ebuka John-Victor Uzochukwu, Stanley Kosisochukwu, and Okosun Destiny faced the legal consequences of their actions before Justice O.I Adelaja of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Kubwa.
The EFCC made the official statement through its verified Twitter handle, @officialEFCC, revealing the charges and outcomes of the case.

The charges presented against the accused were centered on impersonation and internet fraud, highlighting the increasingly prevalent issue of cybercrime in today’s digital landscape. One of the charges outlined that Chukwu Ebuka John-Victor Uzochukwu had created a WhatsApp account under the alias “Alan,” complete with a white man’s photo. In this assumed identity, he engaged in a deceptive romantic relationship with Sharon Bolick, ultimately swindling her out of $25,000 in a fraudulent scheme.
Stanley Kosisochukwu and Okosun Destiny were both charged for their involvement in internet fraud, reflecting the varied nature of cybercriminal activities.
All three defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them, signifying an acceptance of their roles in the criminal activities.
In response to their pleas, Justice Adelaja delivered the verdict, passing sentences that aimed to serve as both punishment and deterrence. Stanley Kosisochukwu and Okosun Destiny were each sentenced to community service – 48 hours and 12 hours respectively – as part of their penalties for their internet fraud offenses.
Chukwu Ebuka John-Victor Uzochukwu, who had taken the initiative to restitute N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) to the Federal Government, was sentenced to six months in prison. However, an alternative was presented to him: a N2,000,000 (Two Million Naira) fine. Furthermore, his assets, including a 2010 Toyota Corolla model and an iPhone 11, were ordered to be forfeited to the Federal Government.
The successful prosecution and conviction of these individuals mark a significant step in combating cybercrime and its associated fraudulent activities. The EFCC’s determination to ensure justice serves as a reminder that the digital realm is not a space immune to legal scrutiny, and that those who exploit it for illegal gains will face the consequences of their actions.
